Pitch Madness B-8: THE BLEEDING HEART

Genre: YA/Dark Contemporary

Word Count: 65,000

Pitch:

Since the night her throat was sliced open, Brooklyn has practiced the art of revenge--dispensing pain by tattooing human skin. Daniel enters her life bringing a different need and now she needs to choose.

Excerpt:

An evil mind prepares for every scenario. Dreams about where and how deeply he’ll push his tools into his victim’s skin. The process is what moves him. The blood, that’s the prize at the end--as is the life drained by his hand.

Evil has a way of lurking around where it doesn’t belong. It thrives on taking blood as a sacrifice leaving its victims to whither and die, while the sociopath watches with the utmost pleasure. In no time, he searches for his next victim. His mind filled with knowledge of horror. Thoughts of whether it’s best to lacerate a vein, allowing life to slowly ooze out of a body or sever an artery. He does this only when he’s ready to watch the victim gush a brilliant liquid into the air, thus ending life.

These are the things I think about now. The blood blue inside the veins, turning red as it makes its escape from a body. I never meant for these to be my thoughts, but I wasn’t given a choice. Juan Carlos Rodriguez altered my life forever--with blood and pain and death. All it took was a few slashes of his knife to transform me.

I’ve always been able to drown out the sounds of a busy town at night and fall into a dreamless sleep. Constantly moving like a band of nomads from one roach motel to another, my parents insured that. Tonight there’s a new motel to sleep in and this time I’m lucky, there are two rooms.
