Can you hook a teen? Blogfest Contest...prizes by Teen Eyes Editorial Services

It's time for another blogfest contest! The summer is nearing its end, kids are back to school, and agents are starting to accept queries again. So how about we kick off the querying process and have a contest to see if you can hook a teen reader? There was such a great response to my book girls' contest that I thought I'd do one with some talented teen editors at Teen Eyes Editorial Services who critique and edit as a business.

If you follow Miss Snark's First Victim blog (which if you aren't, you should be), she gave the girls a shout out and recommendation here.


Teen Eyes Website Teen Eyes is the editorial service for your YA manuscript. About Kate: Kate has completed eight novels to date. Her fifth novel, tentatively titled LIKE CLOCKWORK, won the 2010 PUSH Novel Contest. It is currently undergoing revisions with Jody Corbett at Scholastic Press. She is represented by Edward Necarsulmer IV of McIntosh & Otis. In addition to having extensive experience as a freelance editor, Kate worked as an intern at Scholastic Press where she read many (agented and unagented) submissions. She now works as an intern at Deseret Books. She is 18 years old and lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.

About Taryn: As of July 2011, Taryn has completed eleven novels. They range from YA contemporary to fantasy to YA thrillers to everything in between. She is a kidlit intern with a nationally renown literary agency where she reads lots and lots of manuscripts. Also 18, Taryn lives in Seattle but attends college in Kentucky where she is triple-majoring in English, Creative Writing, and Latin.

If you have a dystopian, mystery, or thriller novel, Taryn would love to check it out. Other elements she enjoys in books include sports, female-empowerment, and re-done myths.

Here's the rules . . .

On September 21st and 22nd post the first 250 words of your young adult or middle grade manuscript on your blog (you may skip this part, if you wish), and then hop around to each others' blogs and give critiques. By midnight on September 23rd post your entry in the comments of the official contest post, which I will have up on September 21st so you can post anytime from then until midnight on September 23rd. It's going to be midnight my time (Mountain Standard Time). I'll have how you should enter your entry on the official post.

Here's the prizes . . .

The winner will receive a $50 editing gift certificate and two runners up will receive a $25 editing gift certificate each from Teen Eyes Editorial Services. Check out all the cool services you can purchase here.

Brenda Drake said...: The limit is 250 words, but please don't cut off a sentence. If 250 words ends in the middle of a sentence, then please go to the end of the sentence within reason.

@ Forbidden - 300 words is too much for this contest. Don't worry about it making sense, it's just to see if you have the voice and can catch the teens in those first crucial words.; September 20, 2011 4:30 PM
